I love Ubuntu, This operating system is for the people by the people and of the people (just like the great Democracy :) ). It does not hang like windows also it is virus free. It has graphical user interface unlike traditional Linux, above all it is free for the masses!!
Below is the process how you can turn your pendrive (or USB drive) into bootable  one and install Ubuntu.
Prerequisite:
  1. USB Drive:  Having 2 GB+ memory & FAT formatted.
  2. Ubuntu ISO file: Latest ubuntu version can be downloaded from  http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop   At the time of writing this blog latest long term support version is 12.04 LTS.
  3. Unviersal USB Installer: This software can be installed from http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3
